Last Chance: Sign the Operation Rainfall Petition!

Those of you who follow my humble blog are aware I'm a supporter of Operation Rainfall.  In case you've been living under a rock, the goal is to persuade Nintendo to localize the Japanese Wii games Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, and Pandora's Tower across all regions.  We encourage "raindrops" to continue supporting Nintendo, and not to import or boycott.  We've been informing Nintendo of America of our interest in these games through letter writing, e-mails, and communication through social networks.

Xenoblade has stolen the spotlight recently with its August 19th release in Europe.  Thanks in no small part to the free advertising the Operation has provided, as well as overwhelmingly positive reviews, the game has far exceeded NoE's expectations for sales.  Brick and mortar stores and online retailers ran out of their first shipments in mere days, and while some seem to have gotten more copies, the game remains conspicuously out of stock online.  If the dubious source VGChartz is anything to go by, the game sold 30,000 copies in its first week in Europe.

Two things of note:  Xenoblade's "first week" only lasted a couple of days due to launching on a Friday; furthermore, most sources do not account for online sales.

Because Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime did say a while back that he would "be watching very closely what happens in Europe," these numbers are encouraging for those of us who are biting our nails in anticipation for the Rainfall Three.  It's my belief, though, that Nintendo needs longer than three weeks to observe the game's performance.  I just hope they realize the game is understocked and that the demand is higher than anything they expected.

With official sales data still a while off, news regarding Operation Rainfall has been slow.  However,  the Facebook page has just announced that they will soon be mailing the official petition.  At the time of writing this, it has several thousand fewer signatures than the Facebook page has "likes."  Don't let this be a missed opportunity for your voice to be heard.  Whether you want to play Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story and Pandora's Tower in North America, or you're a European who knows how it feels to be shorted on game localizations, sign the petition ASAP.  And tell your friends, too!
